On this day, from my seat here in St. Louis, it is difficult to look at the idiotic pie fights on dkos and think this site has much of any real relevance to on the ground organizing. I’ve come here for years, but the fact that the rec list is all Trump and anti-Nina Turner/Single Payer diaries, with no rec listed or frontpage story on #MichaelBrownJr is a disgrace. At least not that I can find. That is unbelievable and speaks volumes for how much this site has become largely vapid yelling into the void that is mainly designed to generate clicks, not actual change. This community has so lost its way that it is hard to even come and visit with hope of meaningful conversations. Here in the Mound City, though, we’re remembering that #BlackLivesMatter isn’t just some catchy slogan. It only exists because our nation continues to deny the value of Black lives.
As it stands, dkos has been reduced to high traffic driven by rage-triggering posts that generate revenue, but little substantive conversation. That nobody in charge has even bothered to acknowledge the significance of this day, in relation to what is so often discussed on the site, shows how rudderless this community has become.
We can’t afford to forget #Ferguson and the destruction of Black lives. This community should be ashamed of itself.
